After recent inflation reports, Federal Reserve officials are becoming more cautious about potential interest rate cuts this year.

Wall Street traders now anticipate only one rate cut this year, compared to their previous expectations of up to six cuts. Economists still expect two cuts, but some acknowledge that one or even no reductions are possible due to persistent inflation.

The economy is healthier than expected, with strong hiring and consumer spending. Fed Chair Jerome Powell has indicated that rate cuts are not a priority as long as inflation remains elevated.

Powell is expected to reinforce this message during the news conference after the Fed's meeting. If he avoids suggesting rate cuts this year, it could indicate that the Fed is less likely to reduce its benchmark rate.
